Issac Brown - DNA UPDATE
Born in Scotland, came to American ca, 1820....believed to have changed his name and had originally been member of a protectorate family of the Clan Campbell of Breadlebane .
Isaac H. BROWN was born in 1806 in Scotland. He died after 1880 in MO. According to family stories, Isaac Brown was from Scotland. He ran away from an apprenticeship at the age of 14 years and came to America. That would have been about 1820. Some time later while fighting Indians, he was wounded and left for dead. He was found and nursed back to health by a tribe of peaceful Cherokees. As a result of his living with the tribe he married the daughter of a 'chief', Washtella. Fearing he might have to leave his new home he changed his name to Brown. It is not presently established what his name was originally.
He was married to Mary MOONEY about 1828 in TN. Children were: Ptolema Philadelphus BROWN, Juan Ferdnand BROWN , Archimides BROWN, Selticana BROWN, Lycourgus BROWN, Elsimora BROWN, Metrabar James BROWN, Mary BROWN, Marcellus BROWN, Fascilina BROWN, Marcius Sabines BROWN, Leonides Hannibal BROWN.
NOTE: A male child of a female descendent of this Brown family was tested for DNA and the Haplogroup identified for the female descendent was U5a1a1.

Grave of Sarah Farley Van Scyoc Fletcher
Grave in Fremont Co., Iowa.
Sarah Ann Farley married
1)"Ashbin Van Skyhowk and Sarah Ann Farley 9 Jan 1845." Holt Co., MO. Holt Co. and Atchinson Co., MO became later Fremont Co., IA. The last name of Van Scyoc has been creatively spelled on more than one occasion. This man was an early pioneer and military figure in Iowa history. In 1850 they are found in Fremont Co., IA, by 1860 he is most probably dead and she had remarried;
2)A. Fletcher
Her life:
Sarah Ann Farley was the daughter of Thomas & Margaret Ferguson FARLEY (son of Henry Farley).
She had a brother named Jackson.
Sarah died in Fremont Co., IA as Sarah Fletcher (name of her 2nd husband Abraham Fletcher; #1 was, it is believed Ashbel Van Scyoc b. 1808 VA. and d. ca 1859 in IA).
Her children were:
Margaret Van Scyoc SHIRLEY
Franklin Van Scyoc (md a Lucinda A. OAKLEY)
Jackson Van Scyoc
Thomas Benton Van Scyoc (md a CLAPPER)
Almira Van Scyoc BECKWITH
Note on research: I found Franklin in Fremont Co. IA in 1850. The census listed the family as "A.V. Schyhock", aged 42, b. 1807 VA; wife Sarah A. b. in the 1820;s VA and a daughter named Margaret and a son Franklin.
Some event occurs from 1850-1860, death, desertion, etc. Later I find Margaret in the home of another family ; this family has connections to the family of Cornelius Van Scyoc b. 1783 who had children Ruth (MUSTARD),Elizabeth (KEELER), Lorenzo, Mary Ann, Benjamin, Sra, "A.". Van Scyoc, MUSTARD and Keelers are all in the same region of Iowa ca 1880, so it may be assumed that they are all related since Margaret it with them.
This circumstantial fact the children were placed in a family with connections to another Van Scyoc lines may support a familial connection between "A" and the Cornelius line.

Mortimore Pots
[Photo by M. Hudson, 1993] The Mortimores in NC produced (either for their own use or for trade) pots and jugs used for storage. These pots shown were made by the original NC Mortimores and came down the line of Plymouth Mortimore through his daughter Pasty Alice Mortimore Sherod. These were in the possession of the descendents located in Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1993.
