Grand Army of the Republic Civil War Veterans Organization.Ptolemy Philadelphus Brown (son of Isaac H. Brown and Mary Brown) was born August 30, 1829 in Warren County, TN, and died November 02, 1903 in St. James, MO. He married Martha Ann Womack on February 07, 1850 in Warren County, TN, daughter (?) of Burgess Harrelson Womack and Sarah Webb. Family legend states he was opposed to slavery and that placed him in opposition to his wife's family and led to a disenfranchisement of them with her family. He served in the Civil War while living in northern Arkansas and may have been a scout. It is said in a letter that the Confederates has a rope ready if they ever caught him.
He signed the letter in "F.C. and L" significant to the G.A.R.

"MRS. B. F. BROWN OBITUARY
Ruhama Issadora Fenton was born September 11, 1858, and departed this life April 20th, 1929, age 70 years, 7 months and 9 days.
She was married to B.F. Brown, Nov. 10, 1880. To this union were born six children two of whom died in infancy, and one son, Frank , departed this life December 17, 1917. Those left to mourn her loss are her husband, B.F. Brown, Sylvia, Kans; one son, J.D. Brown, Ottawa, Kans.; two daughters, Mrs. Annie Cochren of Plevna, Kans.; and Mrs. Ethel Buggeln of Slyvia, Kans; also fourteen grandchildren and six brothers and one sister. Mrs. Elsie Brown, a sister, of Mountain Home, Idaho; R.W. Fenton and P.M. Fenton of Dodge City, Kans.; F.E. Fenton of Sublette, Kans.; E.E. Fenton of Hutchinson, Kans.; W.M. Fenton of Ottawa, Kans.; and L.E. Fenton of Lebo, Kans.
Sister Brown was baptized about 1884. She has been a member of the Church of Christ of Sylvia for the past eight years. She lived a faithful, consistent Christian life. Faithful to her God and a loving wife and mother. Her influence was ever for the right.
The funeral services were held from the Church of Christ Monday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Thornhill of Hutchinson. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F Cemetery."

OBITUARY for VIRGINIA MAE HUDSON
Virginia Mae Moore Hudson, a resident of Berryville, was born Sept. 16, 1926, in the Grandview community of Carroll County, a daughter of Floyd and Elizabeth (VanSyke) Moore. She died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, in Eureka Springs at the age of 79.
Mrs. Hudson was a homemaker and a member of the Grandview Baptist Church. She was deeply loved and will be greatly mourned.
She is survived by her daughter Virginia R. Stepp; two sons, Roy Curtis Hudson and Marvin J. Hudson; three brothers, Robert Moore, J.M. Moore and Floyd Roland Moore; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
On Sept. 18, 1944, she was united in marriage with Curtis Roy Hudson, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two children, and one granddaughter.
Graveside funeral services were to be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at the Moreland Cemetery with Rev. Donald Stepp officiating. Interment was to follow in the Moreland Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.

Curtis was born in Bristow, Oklahoma to Jess and Effie Ray Hudson. He died in 1988 and was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Douglas, Cochise, Arizona. He had been preceeded in death by his parents, brother, half-brother, two children and a grand daughter.

He was wounded at the Battle of Chickamauga in Tennessee, was in hospital for six months, and had a limp for the rest of his life.

Issac Brown - DNA UPDATE
Born in Scotland, came to American ca, 1820....believed to have changed his name and had originally been member of a protectorate family of the Clan Campbell of Breadlebane .Isaac H. BROWN was born in 1806 in Scotland. He died after 1880 in MO. According to family stories, Isaac Brown was from Scotland. He ran away from an apprenticeship at the age of 14 years and came to America. That would have been about 1820. Some time later while fighting Indians, he was wounded and left for dead. He was found and nursed back to health by a tribe of peaceful Cherokees. As a result of his living with the tribe he married the daughter of a 'chief', Washtella. Fearing he might have to leave his new home he changed his name to Brown. It is not presently established what his name was originally.
He was married to Mary MOONEY about 1828 in TN. Children were: Ptolema Philadelphus BROWN, Juan Ferdnand BROWN , Archimides BROWN, Selticana BROWN, Lycourgus BROWN, Elsimora BROWN, Metrabar James BROWN, Mary BROWN, Marcellus BROWN, Fascilina BROWN, Marcius Sabines BROWN, Leonides Hannibal BROWN.
NOTE: A male child of a female descendent of this Brown family was tested for DNA and the Haplogroup identified for the female descendent was U5a1a1.
